Teacher as Learner: Theme 2
Motivation is the best accessory.
Everywhere I look I see a fit bit. I feel lazy not wearing one! There's so many different electronics out there now that track your steps, sleep, etc etc. I decided I was going to research this device a bit before I shelled out $120.
Just as it's important choosing appropriate text for reading comprehension, it's important too when deciding where to start for looking at reviews. I did a google search and I usually always go to my trusty "CNET" website first. They're always up to date with the latest technology with unbiased reviews. It's always good to check out the website you're reviewing to make sure they aren't sponsored by the product! So CNET breaks their review up in an easy to read format... "the good", "the bad", and "the bottom line".
The Good: The Fitbit Alta is a stylish fitness tracker with swappable bands, basic phone notifications and week-long battery life. The new "Move" alerts bring something new. Fitbit's software is still one of our favorites, and has the largest social base as well.
*First of all - it has swappable bands that are PRICEY! I know if I was to purchase this I am already looking at an extra expense, because I want my band to look like a piece of jewelry. The "Move" alert is something I'm definitely interested in. I've had coworkers tell me that if you sit idle for a bit you get a vibration to tell you get up and moving!
The Bad: There's no heart-rate sensor, and it can't be worn in the shower. The tracker is expensive for what it can do and so are the accessory straps. The display is difficult to see outdoors and is susceptible to scratches, and notifications are hard to read.
*No heart rate sensor?! I thought that was a big reason to get this device for some. As for notifications, I figured it would be difficult to see the screen, therefore I can't imagine reading texts that pop up. That makes me wonder if I should just be looking into an Apple Watch instead?
The Bottom Line: While ultimately a more stylish (but heart-rate free) version of the older Charge HR, the Fitbit Alta is a winning fitness tracker with solid style appeal.
*Ok..... ? It scored a 7.9 overall out of 10 on their rating scale.

Now that summer is approaching I am excited that I will actually READ books for ENJOYMENT! I am also excited to write about it!
I feel guilty when I am teaching that if I have time to read a book for pleasure - I should be reading a text book, lesson planning, college book, etc instead. This summer I am heading to New York on June 15th and then Vegas for a wedding on June 22nd. It's going to be a very busy June with lots of traveling... which means.. (hopefully) lots of book reading for entertainment. Now I just need to decide which books will be on my personal summer reading list...... To be continued. :)
